Activities and attractions in and around Windhoek . .

Windhoek is  Namibia's Capital and biggest City.  Most of the time, Windhoek is mainly the gateway to Namibia's world renowned wildlife and national parks.  But there is more to Windhoek as just your point of entry into Namibia, If you are visiting Namibia remember that Windhoek is also part of your Namibian experience and the City and surrounding areas have lots to offer tourist and visitors alike.

We have selected a few must do / must see attractions  . . .

Christuskirche:  You probably has seen this historical landmark on various postcards.  Build in the Gothic revival, building work started in 1910.  More info can be found here.


Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve:  Just 24km west of Windhoek, lies this wildlife sanctuary for a relatively large game population of game species. This is the ideal venue for day visits for people seeking the tranquility of the bush.

National Botanical Garden of Namibia:  If you are interested in the indigenous plants of Namibia and you would like to spend a pleasant hour or more in this peaceful oasis, then this is where you should go. 

Catu Tours:  Township Tours,  a fun and exciting way to experience Katutura in a healthy and eco-friendly way.  Township tour on a bicycle.  healthy and fun and most informative.

Game and safari Lodges:  Windhoek has a large number of lodges within an hours drive from the city.  Most the these lodges offer game drives for visitors or go just drive out to a lodge and enjoy lunch while taking in the splendor of the surrounding area.

Bar Hopping:  If you like the nightlife, Windhoek offers from sophisticated chill out cigar bars to bars that plays soul of Africa rhythms like the Chez Ntamba, or La Dee Da's where you can dance to the traditional Angolan kizomba,  the list go on.

National Art Gallery:  The gallery stands as a cultural and public place hosting visual arts mainly.

Markets:  There is various places where you can spend hours at the traditional street markets and market places.  Try the Post street mall of very nice crafts as well as the street markets on the corner of Independence and Fidel Castro streets.

Restaurants:  Windhoek has a large variety of restaurants serving anything from traditional food to exquisite cuisine, seafood and excellent steak (remember this is Cattle Country) 

Sport:  Golf, swimming, running or if you just want to get rid of a few kilojoules gathered since your holiday started, there is excellent gyms where you can work on that.
